William R. "Bill" Sharpe Jr. (October 28, 1928 – February 16, 2009) was a Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate, representing the 12th District since 1984 and serving as President Pro Tempore since 1990. He earlier served from 1960 through 1980, and as Majority Whip from 1972 to 1980. This making Sharpe the longest serving State Senator in West Virginia history. A career of over 44 years. Sharpe died February 16, 2009. He had undergone a 10-hour surgery in January 2007 to treat what his doctor called a giant aneurysm.
